Last weekend we traveled just south of Salem and stayed in a cabin at Silver Falls State Park. Saturday we hiked "The Trail of Ten Falls". It was the first time that the kids had walked behind a waterfall and they were "wowed". It was fun to be in the woods for hours. This would be a great summer vacation spot since you are in the forest which keeps you cool and the mist from the falls gives relief from the heat. I think the thing the boys like best is with no hesitation playing with fire!!! Oh, did I say "playing"? I meant learning! :) Since we were in a "safe" area for them to learn about fire they took full advantage and when we were not hiking they were learning about fire. We cooked over the fire (even though we had a microwave and frig in the cabin), roasted marshmallows for s'mores and played games. The night always ended with a game of "You Tell The Story" after the lights were out. Someone starts a story and just at the right moment in the story stops and another person tells the next part making it up along the way and stops to let the next person tell the next part. The second night Andrew started and was out before the second person finished his part! It was a wonderful time to explore and experience God's creation and His blessings on us.
